ABOUT HC Fencing

We are HC FENCING
Hey juniors! Ever heard of the phrase “En garde! Prêts? Allez!”? Simply put, it means “On guard, ready, go!” and signifies the beginning of a fencing match. If you are intrigued by this idea of a multidisciplinary combat sport that challenges one physically and mentally, then look no further. We are HCFencing.
Just like a physical chess game, fencing is the perfect balance of speed, ability and intellect. Our sport features three distinct weapon disciplines, or put simply, three weapon groups: Foil, Épée and Sabre. Each weapon presents its own unique set of challenges, but they all share one thing in common—a demand for discipline, agility, and quick thinking. Whether you’re planning a counterattack or trying to score a point, fencers will learn to think several moves ahead, anticipate their opponent’s strategy, and make split-second decisions under pressure, making it an experience that develops both mental resilience and physical endurance.
At HCFencing, we are more than just a team; we’re a close-knit family of committed and disciplined fencers. Under the expert guidance of our coaches and teachers, we continuously strive for excellence, building on our reputation as a powerhouse in Singapore’s fencing scene. But it’s not just about competition—our training sessions are designed to be fun, exciting, and focused on teamwork, strengthening both our skills and our team spirit.
HCFencing is not limited to the physically fit—it’s for anyone with passion, determination, and the willingness to push their limits. Whether you’re new to the sport or already a seasoned fencer, HCFencing is the perfect place to grow, learn, and achieve your goals. So what are you waiting for? En garde! Prêts? Allez! Let this signify the beginning of your HCFencing journey!

FOIL
Foil is a weapon of precision and finesse, testing a fencer’s ability to deliver thrusts with pinpoint accuracy. To score, the fencer must hit a small, designated target area on their opponent’s torso. The need for focus and control makes foil a great introduction to the sport, as it emphasises strategic play and technical skill.

ÉPÉE
Épée is the heaviest of the three weapons, making it a true test of stamina and endurance. Like foil, it’s a thrusting weapon, but the entire body—from head to toe—is a valid target, offering a more dynamic and wide-ranging combat experience. Épée demands patience, precision, and the ability to capitalise on your opponent’s mistakes.

SABRE
Sabre is all about speed, agility, and quick reflexes. Unlike foil and épée, it allows both cutting and thrusting actions, making it a fast-paced, high-energy weapon. The target area is restricted to the upper body, which must be covered by an electrically conductive lamé. Sabre fencers need to be sharp, fast, and fearless to dominate the match.
